So the most Christian, the most capitalist industrialized nation on Earth is only the 17th happiest? With all those non religious pinko socialist countries ahead of us in the happy index. Why is that?
Is it just their long vacations? Health care for everyone? A society without guns? No executions. Free college education? Sex on network TV? A reasonable disparity of wealth? Speedo swimsuits for men? A concern for the planet they live upon? Acceptance of science over religion?
Bill Maher got the Aussie thing right! In my backpacking days I always seemed to end up traveling with an Aussie or two. Big beer, ACDC, the beach and not taking much of anything too seriously. Fun to be with. I found Germans to be much the same.
So when was it that we decided everyone had to work all the time? It’s a rather new concept. Didn’t we used to get the whole Winter off to… Hmmm… Before radio, tv, light bulbs and even books. What did everyone do to pass the time? Hmmm… I have a pretty good idea. And in such small living quarters I am sure the kids knew just as much about what was going on as they do today.
