I can butter my boots and put ’em in the oven, but when I take ’em out they won’t be biscuits. Likewise, the racial slams coming out of Paula Deen’s mouth aren’t made harmless by her stated excuses such as”I is who I am,”and “I’m from the South.” In fact, there are not a few people from the South who cringe when she repeatedly uses her southern heritage as an excuse for her nastiness.
There are some who feel that too much has been made of Paula Deen’s ever-changing tale of racism. How about you, do you feel that the media has been too hard on Deen, or is this a good opportunity to rout this attitude and the language that belies it?
