Only in this decade! There have been several news stories this year about boys who have dressed as female characters for Halloween. One in particular dressed as a female character named Daphne from Scoobey Doo. You’d better believe that he was subjected to scorn, looks, and disdain, not from other kids – from their
mothers!
The boy featured is only five, an age where both sexes play dress-up. Though it’s true that some boys are born with feminine characteristics, this lad simply wanted to be Daphne for a day – should a child’s idea for a one-time costume be questioned? For that matter, should the child who is born with a proclivity to be feminine be questioned?
Thinking back, I’ve never seen anyone question ‘mom and dad’ when they go out; mom dressed as a football player, and dad as a cheerleader. You know who you
are!
