The wealthy envy the poor. Yes they do! Run ragged by glittering parties, mountains of shopping and tropical vacations, the wealthy simply cannot slow down and enjoy the true spirit of Christmas the way the poor do, according to a recent Onion report.
The rich see the poor in heart warming holiday movies. With leisure time to spare, the poor truly have the time to spend with friends and family. They’re seen feasting on wild game, roasting chestnuts, exchanging home-made gifts and singing carols around a roaring blaze…Ah, the Waltons!
Of course in real life, the truly poor gather around the roaring blaze of a burn barrel for warmth and fellowship, passing a paper wrapped bottle. Families hope food banks will provide a semblance of a holiday meal, and the kids can’t always count on Santa.
Before you label them callous, the ‘Makers’ have come through despite the weight they carry. They’re givers, bless us one and all, and they have a generous gift for the enviable poor, and those who are plunging in that direction.
They have taken steps to help the poor with cuts to food stamps and unemployment benefits! ‘They (the poor) aren’t happy on food-stamps’ some lawmakers reason. Without the cushy crutches, the poor, the elderly and the disabled will have the motivation to enjoy the plethora of job opportunities going wanting. Many people, unimpeded by a silver spoon in their mouths, take issue with this philosophy. It’s going to be a struggle for the generous rich to help the ungrateful poor this year!
