Maverick and Goose are unavailable for comment, but the doctored footage from the movie "Top Gun" nearly passed as a demonstration depicting the capabilities of China’s new J-10 fighter jet, as shown on China’s state-run CCTV.
A Dec. 23rd newscast intended to depict the capabilities of China’s new fighter, proved to be a little too dramatic. The footage claims to show a combat squadron stationed in southern China during what was said to be a 24-hour training mission, and shows a jet shooting a guided missile at an enemy aircraft, and hitting targets on the ground, pretty impressive stuff, just as it was when Tom Cruise filmed it as "Maverick" in 1986!
Chinese fans of the movie "Top Gun" recognized the scene where Cruise’s F-14 fighter jet shoots and sends the F-5 jet down in flames, much like the credibility of the state run TV station.
