“Just like Jesus said, ‘The poor will always be with us.’ There is a group of people that just don’t want healthcare and aren’t going to take care of themselves. Just, like, homeless people. I think just morally, spiritually, socially, [some people] just don’t want health care. The Medicaid population, which is [on] a free credit card, as a group, do probably the least preventive medicine and taking care of themselves and eating healthy and exercising. And I’m not judging, I’m just saying socially that’s where they are. So there’s a group of people that even with unlimited access to health care are only going to use the emergency room when their arm is chopped off or when their pneumonia is so bad they get brought [into] the ER.” Kansas Republican and Doctor Representative Roger Marshall.
Okay, Republican ideology well spoken, but doesn’t putting this on the back of Jesus Christ go beyond the pale? Well not really, this is what American Christianity has become. The antithesis of just about every single thing Jesus stood for.
How did this happen?
It began when Ronald Reagan embraced TV Evangelist Jerry Falwell turning Christianity on it’s head. From a personal good news faith to a political movement based on the celebration of ignorance, intolerance and anger.
The Republican party saw how well it worked and that to stay viable as only the party of the wealthy, jumped in full frontal throwing that silly bone to America’s nitwits while still laughing at them privately. Christian Donald! What a hoot.
A few years later came Rush Limbaugh who became so very popular after pushing the laugh and applause button while reading off the names of gay men who died of AIDS moved from Sacramento to syndication followed a few years later by FOX NEWS.
Together dominating rural America with 24/7 with alternative facts and fake news for a generation. This is nothing new at all. It has only recently reached so deeply in the darkness of our American soul that it has become normalized into all branches of government. Resist.
