Lifestyles of the Rich and Shameless The Daily Show Jon Stewart
In this episode of “Lawsuits of the Rich and Shameless” we dry the tears of AIG executive Hank Greenberg. Greenberg is not only whining about unfair treatment during the 2008 bailout, he is filing suit against the government, or we – who gave him a whipping $184.6 billion dollar hand up.
Jon Stewart does the math and makes a decision on AIG’s lawsuit against the U.S. government. It seems that Greenberg is far from grateful for the $184.6 billion dollar bailout in 2008. Greenberg claims the money which purchased 92% of the company was an unfairly low price, although AIG was valued at $15.4 billion. AIG’s lawyer claims the government took unfair advantage of the insurance giant, claiming it was in effect ‘extortion.’ Jon Stewart reasons, “Your better extortionists, your better kidnappers extract money from their victim. You never hear this — ‘Hey, listen, if you ever want to see your precious little doggy again, you’re going to take the $184 billion and once you get the money, we will also give you your dog back!”
To illustrate the point more fully, Stewart portrayed a friendly local loan officer, who when presented with a similar deal – a chance to ‘steal’ from the applicant just as the government did to AIG, dud not need to deliberate before giving them an answer.
