The Center for Disease Control is THE hot spot online this week! In fact, the site has been down more than up, since Monday when the Public Matters blog posted an article concerning zombie preparedness and survival in case of an attack. In their long history of serving the public, the CDC has never seen this kind of traffic over food borne illnesses, rabies outbreaks, or the proper way to check for nits.
The writers of the blog were searching for a way to encourage people to prepare for the worst, in the aftermath of recent tornadoes and on the eve of hurricane season. Author David Daigle said “Essentially the kits and many of the messages are the same.” Presumably he has been attempting to reach those who have not already purchased their disaster packs from Glenn Beck, whose end-of-the-world scenario failed to frighten them any more than the natural disasters surrounding them.
“We have had a hard time engaging people.” His team rightly thought that a tongue-in-cheek zombie alert might get people’s attention. They were right! Supermarkets should expect a run on canned goods, bottled water – and whatever stops or distracts zombies, maybe a recording of "Thriller" on a continual loop?
