A dash cam records as a Texas officer near Forney, Texas lets George Zimmerman go with a warning after pulling him over for speeding. According to the dash cam, after being pulled over, Zimmerman told the officer he had a weapon in his glove compartment. Asked where he was going, Zimmerman told the officer “nowhere in particular.” “Nowhere in particular, why is that?” the officer responded in the video.
“You didn’t see my name?” Zimmerman asked. “Wow, what a coincidence,” exclaimed the officer…visibly cheered by his brush with greatness.
The officer said he would not collect the firearm, and helpfully suggested that Zimmerman stash it in the glove box. Police said Zimmerman, who was alone in the car, was sent on his way with a verbal warning to slow down after a search determined he had no warrants to hold him.
For those who ask why we care, and if every instance of Zimmerman’s life is under scrutiny – they’ve missed the point. The trooper might well have intended to give the owner of the grey SUV a speeding ticket until Zimmerman pointed out his name…Which did seem to change the mood and intentions of the policeman.
Do YOU point your name out to police who pull you over for traffic tickets? If so, does it help you get warnings rather than citations?
As for the gun, I’ll grant that Texas is undoubtedly be more lax than most states…But I wonder if everyone would get a pass for carrying a weapon in the open? The officer indicates that he could (should?) confiscate the weapon, but instead gives Zimmerman advice to stow it in the glove box. Celebrity has its rewards!
