Friends and neighbors of the world, it can always be worse.
Last month the Deputy Mayor of Delhi died when he fell from his balcony. He was being pursued by hostile extremely aggressive hooligans who had broken into his home and were attacking him. You might assume they were armed robbers, or that it was a politically motivated assassination. The official was being pursued in his own home by marauding monkeys!
Last week, two dozen people were injured after monkeys rampaged through a New Delhi neighborhood.
The above were only two examples. Thousands of monkeys have moved into cities due to shrinking forest cover, and they are not being good neighbors. They are said to be growing more aggressive by the day.
“Monkeys are wreaking havoc in my constituency by taking away mobile phones, toothpaste, sipping coke after they open the refrigerators, “Hiren Das told Assam state’s assembly. It was not said whether they were running up charges on the cell phones. He added “primates were even slapping women who try to chase them.” To think, I’M annoyed during fly season, and they don’t hit back.
Assam’s wildlife minister, Rockybul Hussain said the state has formed a panel to “study the problem” It’s nice to know government works in similar ways, whether in India under attack by rampaging monkeys, or the U S facing any of our myriad problems.
Ridding the cities of the now dangerous animals is said to be complicated. Devout Hindus View them as an incarnation of Hanuman, the monkey god who symbioses strength.
