Believe it or not, this is not a case of family violence, the entire mess took place on a peaceful Saturday, and there’s nothing and no one to blame but carelessness, gravity, and the speed of small children. Well, maybe that crack in the sidewalk that Dad had been meaning to fix bears some responsibility. On the other hand, did he expect trouble on the journey from the car to the house, and kept his Glock loaded just in case?
You can lock your guns in a safe and practice good safety precautions for the most part, but it only takes one slip to start a domino-like series of disastrous events, as one Alabama dad found out Saturday.
Allen Jones was carrying his loaded .40 Glock from his car into the house. He is now a believer that most accidents occur at home. Between the car and the house Jones tripped, fell, and accidentally shot himself in the leg.
Wife Aleisha, who was bathing their young son, heard the noise and cries for help and came running. The only critter faster than a panicked adult is a slippery child. Soap slick son raced mom, reaching the gun first – and you guessed it, accidentally shot his mother in the side of the neck. If his hands hadn’t been slippery, his aim might have been better. Many children are not fond of baths – I’m just sayin’.
Mercifully neighbors heard the shots and called 911. Both parents are in stable condition in the hospital, there is no word as to who – if anyone, is charged with babysitting bubble boy until the parental units are out of the hospital.
