It’s Hypocrisy Rock time kiddies, and our new word, ‘Duggary’ can be used to describe all sorts of hypocritical and disgusting behavior! Use it well, and use it often. Lauren Mayer’s song is pithy and poignant and downright funny. And once again we have Dan Savage to thank for adding another word to the American lexicon.
Now, Duggary by definition requires sanctimony, judgement, and hypocrisy, and the Duggars have all three by the truckload. The topper is now that they’ve revealed their secret (after the statute of limitations ran out) they have the unmitigated gall to accuse the “Liberal media of molesting our children.” The victims are unhappy – with the media, not with their abuser or the parents that allowed the molestation to continue. I once knew a woman who repressed her older brother’s abuse until she was 40 years old. She got help. The Duggar girls will get more indoctrination. What do you do with a cult, when it is encapsulated within a family?
Lauren isn’t picking on the Duggars, she makes it known that Duggary is everywhere. Newt Gingrich, Dennis Hassert and the Catholic Church have all helped to make Duggary a staple of American life. Fox ‘news’ and Rush Limbaugh try to put a stamp of legitimacy on it every day. Thank goodness – and Dan Savage, that we now have a name for something that truly is Made in America.
