Are you having a bad day? Consider Gilda Bartlet’s afternoon. Bartlet’s Oldsmobile Tornado demonstrated that an ounce of safety prevention is worth a pound of pandemonium.
Gilda Bartlet left the door open and the car in reverse while she popped out to get the mail. Witnesses said that she was hit several times by the open door of the car, which by now had begun to circle the pavement. Satisfied that they had caught the important shots on their Smart Phones, neighbors eventually dragged her to safety. The seemingly tireless vehicle continued to circle, maintaining a speed of about 10-15 miles an hour.
Before a sheriff’s deputy took decisive action, ramming the vehicle with his patrol car, the runaway Olds had injured firefighter Jody Marlow who sought to leap into the moving vehicle, a heroic stunt (best done by stunt men and women), which appears much easier than it is… Just trust me on this one, and don’t ask why. Adding insult to injury, a police nail strip which is often seen stopping high speed chases was employed. The Oldsmobile rolled over the stopping device as if it were sandpaper. Excuse me, I feel the need to check my emergency brake.
