Thug Notes presents a timely glimpse into Mary Shelley’s masterpiece ‘Frankenstein.’ No mere scary story, Frankenstein ‘the monster’ is as complex as his creator. Among other things to ponder, the book raises the question – are we intrinsically good or evil? Shelley further drives home that vengeance might just as well be the Lord’s because it gets us absolutely nowhere!
I’ve heard it said that Shelley was also influenced by the burgeoning industrial revolution of her age. Her feelings can’t have been much different than ours, as we watch jobs become scarce, and communication depersonalized by the silicon revolution of our own age.
For me, and I suspect for many others it’s impossible to visit this story without seeing Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle as the two characters just mentioned. Before I veer off completely into the Frankenstein that Mel Brooks recreated forever, I’ll leave it to you to discern what Mary Shelley intended.
