Jon Stewart’s Daily Show presents: Democalypse 2014 with Al Madrigal.
Republicans have figured out that their time is wasted laboring in the fields of Hispanic vote gathering, that is why they’re cutting their losses and moving on to what they hope is more fruitful and gullible territory. Yes! They truly believe gay people fit this description. You can never accuse the GOP of overdoing their homework.
The GOP trend this year is inclusiveness. Oddly ‘inclusive’ is not a word which generally pops into the mind when thinking of Republicans. Never was their general mind-set verbalized more clearly than when Babs Bush stood before the gathered poor, starving wretches taking shelter after Katrina. Turning to one of her friends, she snidely proclaimed “They’ve never had it so good!”
Savvy politicians like Rand Paul say it best, “I believe in old fashioned marriage – BUT.” Can you picture him gingerly straddling a picket fence? That is what all Republicans must do as they endeavor to lure gay voters in, while assuring homophobic Republicans of long standing, that they truly have not fully accepted ‘those people’ – they just need their votes. In effect, ‘we’re just using them, you know how we truly feel about them. Just the way that you do!
Anyway – Al’s Latin panties are in a bunch, and justifiably so. After being courted by Republicans, it hurts to be dismissed and shoved out of the ‘big tent’ and generous petticoats which Boehner is trying to lasso gays. Al Madrigal is out to show Republicans what a mistake they’re making in throwing over one group for another. Al may not be promising Republicans a lot of Latino votes, but he is showing them that Latin-American voters are the ‘original gays.’ If the ruffled shirts, tight bathing suits and super fun parties don’t convince you, then maybe Al’s Churro eating demonstration will be an eye opener.
