If you’re visiting either The Kensington Forum or the Kinsington South Holiday Inn branches in England, and happen to spot someone wearing a one-piece footed fleece pajama ensemble complete with hat, Easter hasn’t come in the middle of winter. You’ve merely glimpsed one of the elusive bed warming staffers, whose warm presence is felt in the beds of hotel guests, but never seen unless you glimpse one scampering in and out of the rooms of absent guests. The hospitable hotels offer the service free of charge. A guest merely
informs the desk of the time they will be returning, and one of the bed
warmers will lie in their bed, warm it to
approximately 68 degrees,
then scurry off just before the guest returns. Technically you’re
sharing a bed with a stranger, but there’s no impropriety, sorry. If all
is timed properly the two of you should never meet.
If this catches on, perhaps bed warmer will become a new career path for
some whose job skills are somewhat limited, provided they don’t fall
asleep on the job.
