I don’t know about you, but I need a laugh right now, and founding members of the Monty Python troupe John Cleese and Eric Idle are in the business of laughter . The pair treated Conan to a short ballad about a topic dear to their hearts entitled; “F*** Selfies!” While Conan’s self-effacing take on selfies implies that he wouldn’t mind being asked to pose a little more often, fans of Cleese and Idle have been given fair warning!
Perhaps it takes the British to point out how rude, intrusive and silly the celebrity selfie business is. It’s a pity they couldn’t have advised the Pope before his last visit to the U.S., when he faced millions of cell phones, and requests to ‘scoot in over here with my mother and cousin, and smile.’
This ditty may not have the staying power of “The Universe Song” from the Monty Python movie “The Meaning of Life” which still prompts enormous sing-longs…But it is heartfelt. By the way, if you haven’t seen ‘The Meaning of Life’ – do! I think we could all use a humorous take on what it’s all about.
