Vacationing John Oliver took a moment from filming his YouTube beauty tutorial on contouring – or ‘Johntouring’ , to read his fan mail, or YouTube comments, more accurately. As you may know, there is quite a difference between the two forms of communication. John Oliver defines video comments best; “YouTube comments: The most cogent written argument for never learning how to read. ” Oddly, many viewers were moved to write about John’s eyebrows – which I’d never noticed before. Now, I will be riveted to them, to the exclusion of all else. They are said to ‘be like alien caterpillars, that move independently from one another.’
Frankly, I didn’t think anyone ever read comments about themselves. I was crestfallen to read this week that Twitter powerhouse, Donald Trump hires someone to weed out all negative remarks about him on Twitter. It occurs to me that he may have reason to believe that everyone loves him!
John Oliver was due to return on July 24th, and would have, but for a big spender in YouTube who bet him ‘a zillion’ dollars – and lost the bet to Oliver. If the check clears, HBO will be filling Oliver’s time slot, otherwise he’ll be back with more weighty matters to discuss.
