The bigger point made here by Jon Stewart is not so much foreign policy but the KIND of people Republicans. Imagine if you will that the Democrats ahd invited France’s President Jacques Chirac to speak against the Iraq War on the eve of that debacle in 2003. Just words way over in France itself saying the war was a bad idea caused Republicans to rename French Fries and French toast. Imagine if it had been in the Well of Congress invited by the House Black Caucus! Holyhockylockers! I know I would have watched Fox News every night to see one head after another explode into flying brains and blood all over the cameras night after night. Not to mention Dick Cheney shooting more people than usual.
I have to admit something. I teared up watching the Netanyahu speech. The tears were not from religious or patriotic fervor but rather from seeing all Republicans and most Democrats give uproarious standing ovations every time Bibi hit the WAR NOW button. There is no hope.
We are the most violent nation in the civilized world. Wars, executions, the guns and even slapping children around with little if any hope in changing any of it. After not only Vietnam, but just getting out of our longest two stupid wars, we are, with the help of Barack Obama and the Democratic party, about to do it all over again. And again and again. From the nation that sells itself as the most exceptional loved by God and most Christian in the world. It is the nature of the Beast.
