In this hilarious and revealing Key and Peele episode, an impending same-sex wedding brings a family together with a gay man, who attempts to answer their questions about the gay nuptials. We soon learn that bigotry knows no color, and homophobia looks the same in black as it does in white, red, yellow or brown. Just as with other anti-gay heterosexuals.
Have you noticed, it is never about the relationship or the wedding. Forget the flowers, the menu the church – or the two people whose day this will be. It is always – and I do mean always about the sex, when they are speaking of homosexuals! You will have noticed this when Republicans have sought to ban gay marriage. Immediately bestiality, pedophilia and all manner of perversion are brought up, as if it is relevant. If all else fails, two people in a loving relationship will somehow devalue the marriage of said congressman and his constituents.
Bridegroom Cousin Dellroy’s family has questions. “Will there be a gay section and a straight section in the church?” “When they kiss is it okay to stand up and say ewwwww?” “I can’t do jazz hands.” “Will Ru-Paul or Neil Patrick Harris be there?” You almost have to love the papa, who is disappointed that there will be no ‘gay hymns’ in the church at all – like ‘YMCA’ ‘It’s Raining Men’ or even ‘Over the Rainbow!” These are just some of the G-rated questions posed by the supportive family.
Of course, it’s over-the-top but not by much. Some people still have a hard time understanding that gay people want to be together for the same reasons that straight people do…And sex is just as important or unimportant to gay folks as it is to everyone else on the planet.- YMMV.
