On Last Week Tonight, John Oliver destroys one of the biggest historical fallacies about The Plague, and we prepare to make reparations to – rats. Tear the chapter about The Black Death out of your history books and line a cage with it, because they’ve got it all wrong. We’ve been deluded for centuries into believing that rats caused the Plague. Subsequently the highly intelligent creatures have gotten an extremely bad rap. Rats are feared and reviled. They are exterminated and used as target practice. Scientists feel no pangs of conscience when they use rats in laboratories and for pranks. And what’s worse, the real killers have been brought into our homes, where we coddle and spoil them with love, special food and toys. Right now, a descendent of a plague carrier may be running through his colorful Habit-rail, snoozing in a little hammock or running on a little plastic wheel in your own home. Kick him out!
The free-loading little gerbil has been discovered to be the true bringer of the Bubonic Plague.
Look at him laughing at us…The adorable little whisker twitchers sure pulled one over on the human race, and John thinks it’s high time they apologized. One way or another!
