On Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, John punches holes in Dan Snyder’s recent argument that the name ‘Washington Redskins’ should be retained despite the ruling of a federal judge in July, who deemed the name to be ‘offensive.’ Despite the legal ruling, protests and common decency, Snyder persists in his efforts to have the offensive name reinstated.
In Snyder’s recent legal argument he claimed;”everything is potentially offensive to someone.” John Oliver’s retort is that “The Redskins is *currently offensive to specific individuals.”
In an attempt to prove the name ‘Redskins’ is not offensive, Snyder recently levied a ridiculous legal defense in which he presented a long list of stunning adult product trademarks, arguing that the name ‘Redskins’ was no more offensive; reasoning therefore “Washington Redskins” should be as legal as any adult website or adult enhancement product. There are many, and their names are both descriptive and lyrical in a lewd way. John can list the trademarks with impunity on HBO – and does…With glee. We’re a class act – and can’t, so be sure to watch the video! John’s point is not to shock, but to show that if Dan Snyder sought to prove that his NFL team is offensive – he has achieved that end.
