On Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Whole Foods Market finds themselves in a hilarious, locally grown, hand-picked pickle. The store, which Oliver describes as ‘gentrification in edible form’ was recently the target of consumer rage in Los Angeles, where consumers balked at paying six dollars for a jar of water containing three stalks of raw asparagus…Or, ‘the essence of raw vegetables.’
Whole Foods is currently in hot water in New York City for overcharging customers.I’m certain the jar of honey that is priced at $79.99 is entirely worth it. Because the store has so much apologizing to do, Last Week Tonight has created a wonderfully clever ad for them, featuring some uniquely wholesome products.
Because the store has always banked upon consumer’s desire to purchase anything healthy or some nebulous definition of good; it should not be surprising to see ‘A Tilapia in yoga pants’ for $84.99…The pants are 100% cotton, hand made in Nepal. Don’t forget to pick up your two baby carrots wrapped in artisanual twine! You can’t find them anywhere else…And these are just teasers to get you into the store!
