Michael Jackson made a jaw-dropping performance in hologram form at this year’s Billboard Music Awards. Yes, ‘that’ Michael Jackson! It’s only right that The King of Pop should make history in such a spectacular way. While he and we, would much prefer that he’d been there live, I think he’d highly approve of this production of his posthumous song, “Slave to the Rhythm,” from the latest album, XSCAPE, now number one in 50 countries.
The King moved with his trademark electrifying grace and perfection, seemingly alongside live dancers who were onstage and in the aisles, as well as holographic dancers who interacted with the Michael Jackson image. If it was trippy for us to view this performance, I can’t imagine what it was like for the dancers.
The audience was clearly taken aback and awed, and not a few tears were shed. When MJ left in 2009, he was preparing for 50 sold out shows at the O2 arena, and other than the ‘This is It’ documentary, obviously finished scenes from this show haven’t been seen until now. Move over James Brown, there’s a new “hardest working man in show business.” Jackson has been performing like a pro since he was out of diapers, and he continues from the great beyond. What do you think, is this fantastic, or too soon and kinda creepy?
