Michele Bachmann is so often so obtuse even the crazy quote in this graphic from a satirical site is believable.
In response to Michele Bachmann’s farewell speech on the House Floor Tuesday, Chris Matthews took a few moments to relive some of her zanier moments caught on film. In doing so, we find that nearly every moment caught on film was zany, scary and/or bizarre. One might assume that we won’t have Michele Bachmann to kick around anymore…It’s simply not true. Chris Matthews titled this piece “A Farewell to Michelle Bachmann.” It would be more accurate to share the title of an old Michael Jackson song called “Never Can Say Good-bye.” More of that in a moment, but for now, let’s relive some of those golden moments from the First Lady of the Clown Car.
In the opening clip, Bachmann appears in a Hardball segment calling for (get this) a ‘new era of McCarthyism’ She was motivated by concerns about the President’s patriotism as well as the loyalty of the entire Democratic party. McCarthyism would “root out anti-American lawmakers.” I guess the voters can’t be trusted with that responsibility. They did vote Michele Bachmann in. When Chris asked her how many lawmakers she suspected of un-American loyalties, she gave the responsibility to the media. ” I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out are they pro-America or anti-America.” You cannot fault Fox ‘news’ for not trying to fulfill her request, to the best of their – um, ability.
A return to McCarthyism was not the first of Bachmann’s radical ideas which gave most sane people the queasy feeling that she wasn’t all that familiar with American history. Who will ever forget her inspiring speech about the Founding Fathers? You may recall that according to Bachmann, “The founding fathers worked tirelessly until slavery was no more.”
What an inspiring thought. I just asked a fourth grader, and he said that even they know that some of the founding dads were slave owners. Oh, and there is a Civil War chapter which deals in slavery somewhat – or does it? Bachmann seems to be quite an authority on the issue.
While we’re picking nits; Bachmann also confused the location of the first battle of the Revolutionary War. Didn’t they all meet at an Arby’s in New Jersey?
Oh, and don’t get her started on Obama’s ‘egregious’ system of health care…Or ‘Death Care” as she prefers to call it. What a shame she will have to step down without first saving us from the Affordable Healthcare Act. We can’t say she didn’t warn us about “death panels.” While we’re on the topic of health, Bachmann doggedly hangs onto the claim that a constituent informed her that vaccinations caused the retardation of her child. One verbal claim without medical documentation, sounds like reason enough to toss out vaccinations to me! Don’t you wonder if any of the Bachmanns’ assortment of children are vaccinated? I’ll just bet they are. One thing we provide is the very best health care available for our hard-working House and Senate, (we give it to the majority of them too).
Mathews closed the segment by saying good-bye, and telling Bachmann “It’s been a wild ride and we will miss you.”
If you – like Chris, believe for one second that Bachmann is going anywhere, bless you and your gullible nature, it’s so darned cute! While Bachmann may be moving on from her current position, it’s as unlikely that she’ll disappear as it is that Sarah Palin will stop broadcasting from Wasilla and state fairs throughout the land.
In fact, Bachmann told “Midpoint” host Ed Berliner that she fully intends to be “heavily involved in the 2016 race, in particular if Hillary Clinton is the nominee for president on the Democrat [sic] side.” Hillary must be quaking in her boots, yet she bravely soldiers on.
How can we miss you if you won’t go away Michele?
Bachmann plans to “be in the national media,” speaking around the country, appearing on radio and writing weekly columns and maybe even writing a book!
The Palin similarities continue. “I intend to have my voice and my thoughts as far and wide as I possibly can,” she pledged, “to bring in the perspective of the conservative movement in this upcoming race in 2016. It is the pivotal race in our lifetime and I wanna be involved”
We, Comedy Central, and every stand-up comedian in the land are glad you ‘wanna be involved” too, Michele.
If the inset photo is difficult to read, it is a quote by Bachmann, commenting on Coke’s advertising campaign in Spanish.
“If English was good enough for Jesus when he wrote the Bible it should be good enough for Coke.”
