Sure what is going on in Nigeria is a worst case scenario but this dislike of education is also one of the driving forces inherent to religion past and present. After all, the more educated people become the less dependent they are upon religion for sustenance and answers. Keeping women uneducated is prevalent throughout the Muslim world, though here in America Primary Christians do their best to keep everyone stupid no matter what sex they are. After all, stupid people are their base. Michele Bachmann.
I also keep coming back to Phyllis Schlafly and her campaign to remove GEOGRAPHY from public education. You know, teaching our kids about people from other places and different religions and colors and languages. Best American kids not know about other people, or as it is frequently spit out by these kind of people, multiculturalism.
My argument to this is why don’t we teach anthropology as a mandatory course in high school? Or even an elective? It not only covers evolution, but explains the concept of time. And that concept of time seems to be the main stumbling block for those who are intellectually incapable of getting their heads around “long time.”
And what are vouchers really about? Taking your money to teach their kids that the Earth is 6000 years old, global warming is a lie, scientists are stupid, intolerance is beautiful and the creation of Republican voters for the future.
Take the money out of religion and poof, it’s no longer a factor. Tax religion at the same rate we tax capital gains.
