The Oscars last night went more political than usual beginning with Meryl Streep getting a finger boner when best supporting actress winner Patricia Arquette called for equal pay for women. It needs reminding that Republicans are against equal pay for equal work for women because… I guess because they are just a wholes.
Next we have best song winners from Glory Common and John Legend calling for Selma like action for racial justice today.
And of course the director of the best movie winner for Birdman Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu weighing in on the immigration debate by asking for dignity and respect for immigrants. On the after carpet with the director Sean Penn joked, “Who gave this guy a Green Card?” Social media lit up with offense. I would guess equal numbers of anual retentive liberals and Fox News conservatives crying about how if they had said that they would have been beheaded, or worse. Hello Republicans, there is a difference between sarcasm between friends and expressing the truth of one’s bigotry.
I would like to give outspoken atheist Julianne Moore a heads up for winning best actress for Still Alice. Did you know Julianne Moore speaks out as an atheist for atheists? Probably not hey. I wonder why so few know that?
And of course the one that caused me to tear up in this video, Graham Moore who won best screenplay for Imitation Game admitting to a suicide attempt when he was 16 speaking up for the outcasts of all kinds in our society. From his manner I thought he was speaking for gay teenagers, but he says he is straight. I wish he would have put the word GAY in there somewhere because that’s where the suicide rate for teens soars. Caused by Christian intolerance that soaks the Republican party in mindless bigotry. Oops, sorry that would be God ordained bigotry. Or more specifically I suppose, Jesus Christ ordained bigotry.
