In 1994 16 year old Calvin Wayne Inman entered a convenience store and stabbed 64 year old Iqbal Ahmed to death because he asked for Inman’s ID to purchase cigarettes before he robbed him. This week – 14 years later – Inman turned himself into Pasadena police.
Inman became a youth minister at the 800 member evangelical Elim Church in Pasadena, Texas. The pastor and members spoke out this weekend in solidarity for Inman. The Word (s) they used to describe Calvin were: Hero, courageous, admire, support, love, integrity, role model, responsible, proud, fantastic, applause, right thing and of course Amen. Pastor Nissen added "To lock him away someplace and say he owes it to society is robbing the next generation of a mentor."
This is Pasadena, Texas where the people are literally up in arms defending Joe Horn as a hero for shooting two unarmed non violent burglar suspects in the back – with a shotgun from 10 feet away. Where two police officers recently kicked a Mexican to death and are lauded as good police officers and where Christian residents thirst for the Death Penalty perhaps more than any other town in Texas. Church flock has forgiven slaying suspect who confessed
Dead and forgotten are two Black Hispanics, one Mexican and one off color Middle Easterner. Forgiven, alive and well are four very white boys from Pasadena, Texas.
Which is why – living only a shot away from Pasadena – I am still hanging on to Clinton 2008. I want a live nominee in November.
