“This is my first time out in three months and I’ve said all along that the one place I would want to make my first step back out was Texas!” Paula Deen in Houston Sept 16th 2013..
Who could have guessed that Paula Deen’s comeback would be taking place in Texas?
I include this video, picture and article because of reading a big spread of this charming event in the Sunday Houston Chronicle.
The only good thing about it was that it was one of the few events at our big George R Brown convention center that was not a gun show. When we do have a gun show there, which seems to be every weekend, the City of Houston puts GUN SHOW directions and driving time to the event on all our freeway information signs. We need to control traffic jams. Guns R Us.
I found two things disconcerting in the big Sunday Chronicle article celebrating the comeback of Paula Deen.
First was the pride taken in her appearance here, the joy taken in her standing ovations and the sympathy for her tears of joy. The media promotion for the Texas pride taken in our collective racism even by a Republican lite newspaper which must celebrate Southern bigotry to stay in business. I wonder if she may emigrate to Texas and run for Governor? She’s win.
Secondly the only reference to what caused her problem was a small line about using the NWORD long ago.,
NO, it was not about using the NWORD long ago. It was about Paula Deen defending using the NWORD when applied to “certain” African Americans, you know which ones. And her refusal to understand that the slavery themed wedding she threw for her brother was racist.
Though in Paula Deen’s defense, she is little different than most any white buttered Southern Belle.
Another good thing is that in my head whenever I see a stick of butter I think of Paula Deen rather than Marlon Brando in Last Tango in Paris. Butter that big butt up and she could get the Black Rapper vote.
