It’s time for a round of “Nut or Not”!
With this mysterious topic, truly we can only judge based on the word and character of those who’ve made public statements without fear of ridicule of their mental competency, then judge whether they have bats in the belfry. Long a skeptic, this story caught my eye and full attention.
The recent action, which brought this topic to the fore again was brought by a panel of two dozen esteemed pilots and officials from seven countries. The panel called on the government Monday to re-open the UFO investigation as a matter of safety and security. Few people consider these keen observers such as pilots and astronauts nuts.
The panel states that “Especially after the attacks of 9/11, it is no longer satisfactory to ignore radar returns, which cannot be associated with performances of existing aircraft and helicopters.” At least five per cent of those seen cannot be explained as aircraft, satellites or meteors.” Most are not investigated properly activists say. Activists feel a branch of the U S Air force or NASA could be assigned to the job. It doesn’t sound promising. The Air Force alleges that they investigated 12,618 reports from 1947 to 1969 in the Project Blue Book program, concluding there was no threat, and they are not interested in resuming the role. Of course we always trust the government. don’t we kiddies? Could we perhaps have new technology since 1969 which might help settle the question once and for all?
John Callahan, former Federal Aviation Administration Investigator certainly sounds as though he would be tipping the scales heavily on the “not a nut” side by his title alone. Callahan stated that in 1987 the CIA tried to hush up the sighting of a “huge lighted ball FOUR times the size of a jumbo jet in Alaska. Even skeptics will admit that’s one big weather balloon! Callahan is quoted as saying “It’s a question of who you’re going to believe, your lying eyes or the government?” I might add that if there is nothing to it, why would an agency like the CIA strive to suppress the story?
Tales of UFO’s tend to be considered crazy and pegged way over on the Nut-o-meter, often because of the rapt cadre of some, who wait to see UFO’s at known hot spots, and strive to make contact, often wearing costumes to welcome their space brethren. Strangely that has not discouraged the number of sightings.
Dennis Kucinich was ridiculed recently as one of the “nuts” when he said he had seen one with his own eyes, just as Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter claimed.
Personally, I’d love to think they are all nuts. Our ”visitors” are rarely portrayed in the media as benign watchers. (see the Mel Gibson movie “Signs” as an example, and wear a Depends).
Recent actions by people who simply cannot all be “nuts”, and who are in respected positions such as the panel, leads me to think it might be a good idea to keep an open mind.
Former Arizona Gov. Fife Symington said he was among hundreds who saw a delta-shaped craft with enormous lights silently traverse the sky near Phoenix in 1997. Symington feels a renewed investigation would take a lot of angst out of the issue. I tend to agree. UFO story from Reuters
