On ‘The Trews’ Russell Brand takes note of the arrest of a good Samaritan in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They simply had to slap the cuffs on scoff-law Arnold Abbott, or there would be chaos in the streets. Abbott, who is a veteran, and another activist, insist upon serving hundreds of meals to hungry, homeless people each week, through their collaboration,”Love Thy Neighbor.” If you’d like to contribute, I’m certain we can locate the address.
Like 71 other cities, Fort Lauderdale passed an ordinance forbidding the sharing of food with the hungry. It’s all part of the ‘don’t feed them and they’ll go away and stop littering the parks’ plan, which seems to be modeled after a similar strategy for ridding sidewalks and buildings of pigeons. If you are eating popcorn on a bench in Fort Lauderdale, do not – under penalty of law, share one kernal with a hungry person. You may share it with a bird, a squirrel or a plump, sated person, but not a homeless, starving one. It’s the law.
Protest has sprung up in some circles, after Abbott was arrested and fined $500…Which could have better been used to feed people. Mayor John P. “Jack” Seiler isn’t moved, and says the law will be upheld! Come to think of it, the four billion dollars spent buying the midterm elections, also could have been better used in nearly any other way.
Brand, who is British by birth, cannot possibly understand how a country which constantly spouts Christianity can send the hungry on their way, with a boot print on their behinds. Brand is deluded into thinking that scriptures about charity, helping one another – and the like – take precidence over tidy townships and tourist dollars. The homeless are notoriously dirty and messy. With nowhere to sleep indoors, much less bathe – they are an unsightly mess. Besides, lacking an address, they probably don’t vote. Case closed.
