Sarah Palin incited outrage rather than inspiration, In what she apparently thought would be an adorable lead-in to a clueless New Year message for her Facebook followers. Animal lovers could not see the message for the images Palin posted along with it!
We, as animal lovers here at Kick! have a particular problem with numbskull animal abuse, regardless of who perpetuates it, or whether it is unwitting or intentional. To see it turned into an alleged inspirational message, will also turn your stomach if you’re of a like mind.
Sarah Palin posted four photos of her 6-year-old son, Trig, who has Down Syndrome, standing fully weighted on the back of the family’s black dog, using it a step stool, and obviously posing for a photo of himself adorably reaching the sink to ‘help with the dishes.’
Palin tied the first three photos into her message. The photos are captioned: “Happy New Year!” “May 2015, see every stumbling block turned into a stepping stone on the path forward. Trig just reminded me. He, determined to help wash dishes with an oblivious mama not acknowledging his signs for ‘up!’, found me and a lazy dog blocking his way. He made his stepping stone.”
If one were snide, one might observe that this is the Republican way, to make a stepping stone of the backs of those in your charge, at their peril, and paint it with an inspirational message.
Palin’s fourth image bears the message: “Our hope is not in the new year … but in the One who makes all things new.”
‘ll bet she thought she’d nailed it this time. How can you go wrong with a hopeful new year message, a mention of God, and an adorable child photo? The dog isn’t talking, but the animal rights community is up in arms!
Immediately after her post, over 13,000 people had commented. “Disgusting. Not how to teach children to respect animals.” as one observer noted. Another commented “Adorable little guy, but teaching him that that is ok is not ok. It’s a living animal not a step stool.”
Sarah Palin will always have her family…er supporters, from whom such messages as this, were posted.
“Beautiful family and precious child,” said one poster. “Our pets respond to each of us as needed!”
Indeed. Dogs will ‘respond to each of us as needed.’ We are supposed to be wise enough to know when we are abusing them with that need.
