Though you cannot tell by looking at him, Jimmy is not a Washington Insider. Which of course means he should win as that is the criteria Americans most demand this elections cycle.
Though no video at this time of the complete Seth Meyers Weekend Update, he had a couple good lines concerning the Juan Williams, Fox News, NPR brouhaha.
You know how far apart things are when an example of an bigotry causes NPR to fire and Fox New to hire someone for the same reason.
Conservatives must really hate NPR to hire a black guy named "Juan".
This hate of NPR and PBS is nothing new. We went through most of this same kind of rabid anti-intellectual Tea Party crap back in 1994 when Newt Gingrich became Speaker of the house.
I have listened to NPR’s All Things Considered or Morning Addition most of my life. It is a respected and professional news source around the world.
The Fox News byline of "Fair and Balanced" is no joke. The kind of hardcore conservative propaganda Fox News pours out is really thought of as fair and balanced by Republicans. They are true believers who will believe whatever they are told. That’s why Fox News and Talk Radio are so effective, it is how slow witted replace reality with belief. It works. It is also why liberal talk radio and liberal bias TV do not work, progressives and liberals to not accept whatever they are told or can be so easily herded.
There is no liberal bias to NPR. What there is there is no conservative bias. The conservative world view is that all things that do not have a conservative bias must then have a liberal bias. Namby Pamby CNN is another example of liberal bias that does not exist.
To add to the conundrum is that the average world view, the actual middle of the road is what we call "social democracy" or "liberal democracy", meaning a fair mix of capitalism and government. We used to call that "pluralism", something to strive for rather than make fun of.
Things have gone so far to the Right in some sectors these days that many in the GOP applaud firemen sitting in their trucks watching homes burn down with pets cooked inside unless the owners have pre paid an extortion fee up front. The reasoning is not only is tax based fire protections ‘socialism" but that we did the same long ago before FDR and the New Deal ruined the American Dream. Which has pretty much become the basis of Republican politics. The the destruction of FDR’s New Deal and LBJ’s Great Society. Primarily putting an end to Social Security and Medicare. After all it is what Jesus would do. Or better said, it is what Rush Limbaugh would do.
