Even in the best of homes, table manners can slide if one is not vigilant, as you can plainly see in this episode of ‘The Britishers’ by College Humor. This is so very timely with Thanksgiving already here, and the other holidays nigh and looming like a dreaded storm front.
Of course this scenario could never happen in real life. A family is gathered at the breakfast table, but instead of sharing lively conversation, they are ignoring one another. Their attention is rivited on some kind of newfangled, individual communication device, which apparently must be watched intently lest it run away or ring, with important news. How silly and rude, don’t you think?!
Only one family member sees clearly, and she takes her distracted family to task. For one golden moment Father comes to his senses. “If we’re not careful these new tel-e-phones could spell the end of civilized discourse forever.”
You said a mouthful there, Pops! And so it came to pass. “Pass…I said please pass the potatoes!!!”
You have never seen a family group similarly distracted – have you?
If you care to share what is so wonderfully diverting on your iPhone during dinner, you will not be judged. In fact, we’d love to hear it…Within the bounds of decency of course. I’m curious to know what my in-laws are doing while I’m carrying on a conversation with myself at the next holiday gala!
