Conan O’Brien reports that studies show marijuana use amongst teens is down, and shows the awkward interactions which could occur when pot-loving parents struggle with a teen who just says ” no” to pot.
In this installment of ‘What’s the matter with kids today’ I examine possible reasons why teens refuse to join their parents in using marijuana. To Baby Boomers having a cool parent who smoked pot was most often a pipe dream. To be deprived of the opportunity to be that parent for your teen must be extremely frustrating! Perhaps the child prefers alcohol – like your own parents. Studies show teen alcohol use far surpasses use of marijuana. I am hopeful that it’s a retro thing and they’ll soon outgrow it.
It’s also possible that your teen refuses, simply because it’s natural for teens to reject everything about you. It’s how they gain their independence. In time they may well smoke the peace pipe with you. Alternately, and assuming you live in a state where pot is still illegal, they may see a DARE presentation and report you to the cops. Be sure to vote for marijuana reform when you’ve finished your community service and probation!
