This is a fun clip from 1994 when anchors Katie Couric, Bryant Gumbel and Elizabeth Vargas co-captained the S.S.Today Show into people’s living rooms.
I’d bet confidently that each of the three has an active Twitter account now, which they could not have envisioned – much less explained at the time of this taping. They’ve come a long way baby. In fact, it’s a sobering look at how very much the internet has changed the lives of average people since 1994. What did we DO when we didn’t have facts at our fingertips, opportunities we never dreamed of, the ability to easily communicate with others far away – and of course, prom so easily available. I hear that is important to some people.
In a perfect example of how far we’ve come, here, the @ sign is the topic of much discussion, and judging by the confused and conclapulated discussion one would guess that the highly touted internet would be no more than a passing fad, only utilized by nerds like the technician who shouts a correct answer or two at the puzzled hosts, so they don’t appear to be complete dolts. Nice try techie guy!
