Kentucky teen Codie Thacker, refuses to run with the assigned number #666 pinned to her jersey. The track star may not be running in an upcoming event, but she’s certainly standing firmly on her convictions. The young athlete said the number made her ill, and that she feels that she “stood up for God” by refusing to wear her assigned number, which is often associated with Satanism.
The numbers were assigned at random. You might reasonably wonder why they can’t just switch the numbers out? This is where the story veers into a ‘he said – she said’ recollection. Thacker’s coach claims she requested another number from the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, but they declined.
In their defense, the KHSCAA claims they give the numbers out early to have ample time to change them if necessary, and that they’ve switched numbers for various reasons in the past. The spokesman continued saying they would have gladly done so for Ms Thacker if the request had been presented clearly.
Apparently someone’s fibbin’ or there’s a deep smoking pit of miscommunication. Either way, Satan lost this time…Wily devil.
Some say a mountain was made of a molehill. Still others congratulate the girl for taking the stand, which has turned into an unexpected opportunity to witness for her faith due to the interest of news agencies across the country.
Call me non-confrontational, but why not just pin the number on upside-down. As far as I know,999 doesn’t stand for anything much. However, it just now occurs to me, that if Codie took that route, she would not stand for much…As she sees it. And maybe hers is the most important opinion of all.
However – if I ever hear of her cantering by on her speedy legs, and heckling slower Atheists Agnostics or fallen-away Papists, the uncharacteristically sweet last sentence or two are null and void. ; )
