Like other liberals, I’ve been grappling with Megyn Kelly’s recent remarks – first regarding Santa’s race, and secondly humor – and who has it. It turns out that we are the ones who lack a sense of humor – not the dour-faced confabulators at FOX. It’s enough to turn the world upside-down, and spin it in the other direction. At Fox, they try to maintain a light-hearted atmosphere, using humor to reach people, and we – I’m including Colbert and Stewart here, are lacking a funny bone. So says Kelly, and so say they all. By the way, saying it makes it so.
Anderson Cooper (also humor impaired) has further rocked my world. If Santa’s color is fit for discussion, shouldn’t we know a few other things about the jolly old elf? Where does he stand on nuclear disarmament, twerking and gun laws? Does the man who has free rein in your home, pray to Jesus – or maybe he’s a Scientologist or a Hindu. What if he’s a Wiccan or an Agnostic. It’s possible that the Santa who flies over Haiti as well as Dallas practices voodoo. You must admit, he more than dabbles in magic. Would you shove him back up the chimney based on his beliefs?
Finally, where does he come down on the great conservative vs liberal debate. As a fat cat employer of elf labor he could well be a Republican…One of the great ‘Makers’ Romney praised. However, as a flamboyantly costumed distributor of his products – for free, with no strings attached, he’s out of that club! This is a deep conundrum to ponder. I anxiously look forward to the next Fox report, when surely they’ll clarify these murky questions for us…With a twinkle in the eye, and tongue in cheek of course.
