Last Week Tonight John Oliver: Doctors Love Drug Money! Pharmaceutical Marketing to Doctors

John Oliver is back – with the cure for your doctor’s addiction to pharmaceutical company marketing money! Pharmaceutical companies spend billions of dollars marketing their products, and (most) doctors are lining up to get their share.

Surely you have been there. You’ve spent an eternity in a waiting room, filled with sick people and screaming kids. The door opens and a freakishly attractive man or woman with a bulging sample case, breezes right through with nose aloft, en route to your doctor! For the next hour no one is seen, but hearty guffaws emanate from the back where your physician seems to be having a party with the attractive newcomer…He is.

In this must-see segment, John reveals what really goes on back there, and why few doctors are immune from the allure of Pharmaceutical money.  I promise that you will be shocked and dismayed. You’ll also be highly amused by the antics of ‘The Google Guy’ playing  the doctor in Johns’ skit. Finally, we are given a tool with which to fight this malady.  Briefly, and without spoiling the piece entirely, you should know that pharmaceutical money takes many forms, from free lunches to speaking fees. Some companies sponsor ‘seminars’ at lush vacation spots. As you can well imagine, Big Pharma has certain expectations in return, and Doctor X sure wouldn’t want to let that hot rep down!

How can you tell if your doctor is on pharmaceutical money?
*Is he or she happier than usual?
* Quick to prescribe drugs you may not need, or refuse to prescribe ‘old’ drugs that you do!
* Are surprisingly attractive, but not sick people frequently seen in the waiting room?
* Often prescribes ‘off label’ drugs, such as a new anti-psychotic medicine to cure your sinusitis. I only exaggerate slightly.

If so, he’s taking Pharmaceutical Money
How pharmaceutical money works:
Money combines with the cash receptors in your doctor’s wallet, giving him fast acting financial relief, so your doc can rest easy and enjoy life.
common side effects include but are not limited to:
chronic over prescription, unusually heavy cash flow, dependency on free samples, inflammation of confidence, affluenza,
increased tendency to prescribe off label medications –  which in turn may cause:heart attack, stroke, loss of feeling in arms and legs, seizures, blurred vision, grinding of teeth, partial deafness, total blindness, numbness, sudden bursts of rage,
angry erections lasting over 17 hours and death.
ASK your doctor is he’s taking any money from the companies who make the drugs he’s just prescribed to you.
ASK HIM IF HIS TAKING IT IS RIGHT FOR YOU
