Stephen Colbert Names the War Against ISIS

Stephen Colbert claims that President Obama is a failure. Yes, he did!  In a stinging rebuke, Stephen accuses Obama of being ‘even worse than Jimmy Carter!’ That’s a strong accusation, but Stephen isn’t alone.  Jimmy Carter has been criticizing the President as well.  As Stephen frankly tells Obama – “Oh Snap!” “Obama you just got malaised…That’s like FDR beating you at kick-ball.”

Why all of the hate? It is all in a name.  People are upset that Obama hasn’t named our military action against ISIS. It’s not just Jimmy Carter, pundits and politicians from all sides are frankly put out that we don’t have a handy acronym to use in describing whatever it is that we’re doing over there.  Of course they all have a theory as to why the President has been slow to christen the war – or our not-a-war. Perhaps it’s an attempt to avoid an embarassing acronym like the impulsive but honestly named, “Operation Iraqi Liberation” or ‘OIL.’ Then again, maybe we don’t need another suggestion that military planners peg as “just kinda bleh.”

Personally, I believe Obama is cleverly waiting for our allies to join in and name this one.. He knows that if they are included in the naming process, they will feel more pride of ownership. This will in turn, lead to more involvement.  It’s just like when siblings bring a stray kitten home. The brother or sister who gets to name the kitty may well remember to feed or water it more often than the child who feels no ownership…Then again, 99.9% of the time, mom will cave in to it’s pitiful cries.

We have hogged wars far too often.. That’s why our allies often lag behind, thinking ‘Hey, the U.S. has got this, let’s stay out of their way and save our money for ice cream, we already have health care and free education. ‘
