Religious ignorance and hate groups, moderates to the rescue

For our missing friend DB!

As you will see, this is not meant as an attack on Christians or people who truly practice a belief system. Those who embrace faith or religion must be as horrified as anyone by the scene which unfurls here in cartoon form, but is enacted daily throughout this country. In fact, the mob puts me in mind of the so-called ‘Westboro Baptist Church‘ – best known by their protests at the funerals of gay soldiers, although they’ve branched out to to be anti-Semitic as well, Wherever there is hatred, the Phelps clan will be there fomenting it.

It is difficult to tell a Tea Party gathering from a Phelps production from the hateful misspelled signs alone! They all share a presumption that God is on their side.

The Westboro hate group not only carries the signs of the cartoon crowd, but also shout the message of eternal damnation, adding yet another heavy stone in the hearts of the loved ones who have gathered that day to honor their fallen son, daughter, lover, father, mother, brother or sister. They are allowed, for the sake of their freedom of speech.

As the maker of the video states to the ‘moderates’ who often attempt to help clarify matters:
"To those moderates: did you ever for once think that perhaps we’re on the same team? There are some moderates, however, who do stick their necks out and try to help counter the fundamentalists. You’re appreciated."

We do have much more in common, and it’s time we found a way to discredit and turn down the volume of these groups, for the benefit of all. Far from trampling on their Constitutional rights, the act would allow others to enjoy their own .
