Politicians like Jon Kyl of AZ feel free to state preposterous lies with no fear of losing credibility or their jobs. In fact, they can usually expect to gain a few points from those who also aren’t interested in the truth. It didn’t quite work that way for Kyl when he made the infamous claim that ninety per cent of Planned Parenthood’s services are abortions.
Seeing that his extremely hyperbolic lulu wasn’t sliding by smoothly he topped it with a disclaimer of sorts. The rest is history, in fact Kyl is likely to be remembered for a statement in that disclaimer long after he has vanished from the public eye – and God willing, the Senate.
