Haggard, was forced to resign from the evangelical New Life Church in 2006 after what he now calls "my crisis," having been caught, he admitted buying crystal meth from a male prostitute with whom he’d had an affair. Mind you, Haggard has preached fire and brimstone upon the heads of homosexual men and women for years, causing untold amounts of grief and guilt. As far as I know, he’s yet to apologize for that, and plans to welcome homosexuals and those he’s previously banned.
It’s a new day, and many things have changed. Haggard would like to take some of his apologies back, he feels that he repented entirely too much, or in his words ‘over-repented’ if that’s possible. His original story has undergone a similar shape shift, sounding very much like Al Gore’s diary entry of a "massage gone horribly awry." Haggard, now claims he is and has always been, a heterosexual. Birds gotta fly, fish gotta swim, and Ted must lead a church – or so he says. Could the announcement in June that he’s building a new church have anything to do with his desire to re-write history and take the regrets and repentance back? Does his God issue returns and exchanges without a receipt?
