"I don’t want any other kids to go through the pain that our family has gone through." That is the message of Marcelas Owens, a fifth grader from Seattle, who is the latest target of abuse from the mouths of the right wing, including Limbaugh, Beck, Malkin, and Newsbusters
who calls him a spokesman for the liberal lobby. Owens is making a plea for health care after losing his 27-year-old mother Tiffany, who died of pulmonary hypertension. She lost treatment when she lost her job, then her health care – a familiar scenario in this country. He’s been called "a human kiddy shield for the Dems" by Malkin, "a sob story" and much more, which gets much worse by Limbaugh, and of course, Glenn Beck ties it to socialism, after attacking the child’s grandmother. You be the judge. Marcelas doesn’t look like a political shield, he looks like an eleven year old who lost his twenty seven year old mother, through no fault of their own.The attacks must be seen to be believed. If you think the right has ever gone as low as possible, think again. Perhaps The Nation’s Chris Hayes is right when he says that the conservative media realizes that health care isn’t the downfall the right has claimed. They have no positive option to replace it,their plan has always been simply to discredit health care by any means. They’re scared into making these monstrous statements when we see the faces of real Americans suffering without health care. What is it to the media but ratings? If Limbaugh were a sports caster, he wouldn’t be saying that he’d tell Marcelas that his young mother would have died anyway. Being a mouthpiece for the right seems to require that every bit of humanity be sucked from the soul.
