Not only is Jimmy Cartrer correct that this rabid anger expressed by birthers and tea parties is driven mostly by racism, but even more onerous is that our failure to follow the rest of the civilized world with universal health care coverage is also driven by it.
The central factor as to why Americans are the only civilized nation on Earth that will not – in the past, present or future – support universal health care – like ending welfare – is because MOST WHITE Americans do not want THEIR TAX MONEY going to support in any manner or EVEN STOP THE BLEEDING of African Americans, Mexicans and other funny looking people with funny names. It has been the driving force behind our political system since 1620.
In fact right now the Republicans are specifically singling out African American individuals and groups for destruction to the applause of the nation.
Jimmy Carter was right about Ronald Reagan, was right about Israeli Apartheid, and is right about these tea parties being driven by the racist nature of these kind of people. But facing the truth about our racist nature is bad politics, so bad that even the first African American President has no choice but to move away from that truth or be politically destroyed.
I agree that Jimmy Carter’s statement hurt the fight for Health care reform, but Health care reform was over long ago so it matters not one wit.
