In a rare Special Comment, Countdown’s Keith Olbermann argues that it is time to make the changes President Obama promised during his campaign and pull our troops out of Afghanistan. Many will be unhappy if he does follow through. Those who profit from war, and those who have been sold a bill of goods by them and the war-makers at the Pentagon will cry loudly of disaster, as will those who have forgotten the lessons of Viet Nam. Whether you agree or not, it is well worth watching and weighing what is said. If you disagree, please voice your reasons.
Be assured the people of Afghanistan will be happy to see us go. They once looked upon us for help, but want nothing more than to see us stop destroying what is left of their country. Keith argues that unless President Obama can find reasons which weren’t apparent when he first campaigned, he owes it to all to disengage and exit promptly. After all, many voted for him because of his stance on this very issue.
Keith Olbermann makes many excellent points, viewing this inherited mess with the clear vision of one who is not part of the military industrial complex, who have profited greatly. We have been fed lies large and small, many are covered in this excellent commentary. When tomorrow comes, I too hope President Obama will listen to himself, and his first evaluation of this nebulous and outrageously expensive war that we can’t afford financially, in precious men and women, or on our own moral principles.
