Tomorrow Joe Lieberman, Scott Brown, Jason Altmire, and Charlie Dent assault the constitution with the introduction of the ‘Terrorist Expatriation Act.’ Making hay of the rumor and innuendo surrounding the Times Square attempt, the ‘small government seek to seize the opportunity to trounce the Constitution and expand government into a ten ton gorilla! The State Department would decide whether you appear to be involved in a terrorist organization and if so, would strip you of your citizenship. For instance, the State Department may decide that the Red Hat Ladies sound like a communist organization. At that point, the ladies, while having committed no crimes other than perhaps a fashion violation, would be stripped of their
citizenship. The point seems to be that the Americans without a country would be subject to a military tribunal if legal problems do arise – a process which appears to be overrated in
these cases, but popular lately with conservatives like John McCain and the Lieberman Four.
Law professor Jonathan Turley joins Rachel in pointing out the absolute unconstitutionality of the bill, as well as the provisions already present for citizens who actually commit an act of treason.
