Well done from an unexpected source of the less than thin!
In the Ayn Randian world of Ron and Rand Paul, the Cato Institute, John
Stossel, the TeaTards and the Looneytarian Party RECOMMEND means TO FORCE and MAKE ILLEGAL. As you will recall the Nazis RECOMMENDED that Jews be sent to Auschwitz.
This is one of those issues that pushes the white working class into a lifetime of pulling the voting booth lever for straight GOP tickets. Over the past generation it has not been actual political issues that created this nation’s recent conservative hegemony, but the perception of Political Correctness.
In fact it has been one of the most successful propaganda ploys in human history. Painting Liberals and Democrats as finger waggin’ Nazis telling everyone what they can and cannot say.
It was funded with hundreds of millions of dollars and has been the mainstay of the Libertarian think tank The Cato Institute trolling college campuses for the PC meat, exaggerating it, then pushing it on to talk radio who then call the mainstream media biased unless they jump on board. We have an entire chapter devoted to this issue Kick! on Political Correctness.
These days the same people with the same politics are pushing that same old issue by tweaking it a bit and calling it the Nanny State or European Socialism. What the civilized world calls moderate common sense.
The Food Nazis are just one of the many Nannyisms. There is also Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and above all the new Health Care program which tries to include everyone with some health insurance coverage. And of course the Nazi Michelle Obama advising and recommending better eating habits for children. The stuff of armed revolution!
To understand how embedded this bogus crap is into our perceived rugged individualism, I was watching Morning Joe a few weeks ago with guest Tom Brokaw. Mika suggested a 2 cent tax on a can of sugar filled drinks. The entire Morning Joe gang, including Tom Brokaw went literally ballistic! I was as stunned as Mika who slunk into her chair in fear of being beaten to death.
