As Thanksgiving draws near Jimmy Fallon writes his weekly thank you notes. While counting his blessings – and one of them is dressing, he also touches on the irksome and the ironic in the traditional family feast and gathering of the clan – and who among us can’t relate to that?! I probably should explain that while the photo of Sarah Palin is several years old, her oblivion to the slaughter behind her makes this a classic photo – and likely boost the sales of Tofurky that year.
Speaking of Tofurky. This is not the time to introduce your friends and family to meat-shaped tofu. They won’t be fooled, and they certainly won’t be thankful! In fact, any deviation from the traditional grub will be looked upon with suspicion and most likely, open hostility.
What new cook, anxious to impress friends and relatives hasn’t forgotten to pull that little frozen bag of turkey innards out of the bird? It is early in the pre dawn hours, and cold inside of the bird. No one wants to go exploring, I’m not confessing mind you. However, guests at a certain Thanksgiving disaster, may be of the belief that it is a tradition ‘from the old country’ to leave the bag in the bird. The lucky guest who spoons it out with a clump of dressing wins a candle holder or a commemorative plate off of the wall.
