The quotes that are not racist if you are a White Republican follow:
"You heard of the Citizens Councils? Up north they think it was like the KKK. Where I come from it was an organization of town leaders. In Yazoo City they passed a resolution that said anybody who started a chapter of the Klan would get their ass run out of town. If you had a job, you’d lose it. If you had a store, they’d see nobody shopped there. We didn’t have a problem with the Klan in Yazoo City." Haley Barbour
"I just don’t remember it as being that bad." Haley Barbour on life in Mississippi before and during the Civil Rights era.
The entire tediously long glowing Haley Barbour for President article at the Weekly Standard, The Boy from Yazoo City
Haley Barbour, Mississippi’s favorite son by ANDREW FERGUSON.
It may be hard for some of yall to believe this is actually the Mississippi State flag that flies over government building throughout the poorest and least educated state in America. [Here in Texas we thank the Lord everyday for Mississippi keeping us from the very bottom of things that matter like education, poverty rates, health care for children, misery, pain and loss of hope]
To their credit Mississippians did think about changing the flag back in 2001, but the Proposition failed 2 to 1. The people of Mississippi wanted to keep the Stars and Bars prominent to remind the rest of the nation (and World) that promoting slavery and treason is something to be very proud of.
By sheer coincidence (so say White Republicans) the population of Blacks in Mississippi is the highest in the United States at 37%. About 2 to 1 Whites to Blacks. Just coincidence of course, or so THEY say.
Not so long ago I had the honor of being detained in Mississippi on my way to Wally World. In court I found – not Mississippi state flags – but full bore Confederate Stars and Bars flags draped in front of the judges bench. Behind the bench on the wall along side the 10 Commandments, and every lawyer – prosecutors and defense lawyers who were all white – wore some combination of Stars and Bars lapel pins, belt buckles, ties, socks, boots, briefcases and some actually were adorned all of the above. It was more like an evil circus than a court room. Gulfport. DONT GO THERE. Plan any trip AROUND Mississippi. The last thing in the world one would want is for Sheriff Barbour to pull you over and make you squeal like pig.
I also was surprised at all this from Barbour who I had though was cleansing the Internet of his racist past. I had a recent picture of him that popped up easily of him sitting in his office which was covered in Confederate Battle flags, I lost it and cannot find it any longer on the Internet.
